I like this. Aram Bartholl has been going around NYC installing a number of anonymous, offline, public p2p file-sharing networks in the form of wall-embedded USB flash drives into which anyone can connect in order to upload/download random files.
Five of these “Dead Drop” locations have been set up so far, with more to come (including expansion into other cities).

Love love love it.

Hey, that’s @Bre at the Makerbotcave Factory! (previously)

I love this idea.

Not hard to guess who directed this charming little piece.

It’s the eternal debate for all geeks: beer or sex? That’s the question posed in a clever commercial for Stella Artois beer that premiered this weekend. A young French man brings a young lady back to his home, which is set up like something out of a James Bond movie. She starts to play with some of his remote controls and, well, you should watch the one minutes commercial to find out. What makes this eye catching spot even cooler, though, is that it was co-directed by Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola.

Aren’t special effects great!  Theses guys show you how to composite an army for your WW2 epic.

Team Compost headed out to Omaha Beach for 4 days armed with a Z1 camera, a pop up greenscreen, some soldier uniforms and 2 rubber rifles (we couldnt afford 3), and begun the process of covering the beach (with camera on the cliff top), and re-enacting the veterans moving accounts. When back in London (and back in our real day job) we began to piece together all wed shot using adobe after effects, (and a little 3d modelling in maya) turning the 3 of us into the invading U.S. army.

Jury Duty Day 2

11:34am - We were all told to be here at 9:30am today.  I thought if i get there at around 9:28 i wouldnt be waiting outside for that long. Apparently the court room was being used by some other people and there was a delay.  At around 10:15 i thought about going back to the 1st floor to get some tea.  I skipped breakfast again and thought the hot drink would suppress my my hunger for a bit.  There was no way of knowing when they would let everyone in though. I was there on time. I dont want it to look like I just strolled into court an hour late.  An elevator door opened behind me and some people got out and without thinking i jumped in and pressed ONE.  I got my tea and speed walked back to the elevators. As i pressed SIX i though about how much time had passed.  Probably no more than 3-4 minutes.  The elevator doors opened to reveal an empty hall way. Of course! As I stood there shaking my head for a second I noticed a water fountain.  I cant walk in with this tea so i down the drain it goes.  I barely had time to enjoy it.  The tea was to hot to take large sips.  I guess people had started walking in at about the time I reached the 1st floor.  Everyone was settled in their seat but the judge wasn’t out.  I squeezed in somewhere and silenced my phone.

The judge talked about the case a bit and what our role was. We did a questionaire and at 11:00 the judge said we’d break and be back at 1:30 because he had a meeting at 12 or something.  I think i’ll have something healthy today.  The food from yesterday was to good (unhealthy) to have two days in a row.

2:04pm -  For lunch i went back to the trucks and thought about a caesar salad but saw a Lamb and Chicken over rice w/ white sauce platter.  It was good and they give you a lot. Its no wonder why i was 20lbs heaver in college then I am now.  More waiting in this hall!  Does anybody care about time in this place?  At least let us know whats going on or how much longer its going to be.  I live in a world of information feeds and constant alerts. UPDATE ME!!! I guess thats just the way this thing goes i guess.

4:06pm - Done and done.  They haven’t finished finding they’re right combination of jurors yet but i am no longer in the running.  Its been a long two days but now i get to going home.  The morning was kind of cold and rainy but now the day looks bright and sunny.

Jury Duty Day

9:51am - The first time i went to jury duty it wasn’t like this.  No food voucher!?! I skipped breakfast because there was a food voucher last time.  Different court houses, different way of doing things i guess.  There’s only as much coffee and tea as we want. Why the huge line for 8oz of hot water and your choice of powder?  i waited 30min for the line to disappear to get my English Breakfast Tea.  Some breakfast. While we wait to be summoned we can sit in Room A (History Channel), Room B (ESPN), Room C (CNN), the coffee lounge or the Computer lab. The computer lab is a nice quite room with cubicals for anyone who brought a laptop. Or who brought a portable dvd player and season 3 of HOUSE MD like this guy next to me.  If i had brought my headphones id be all over Hulu or Boxee trying to hold back my LOLs. I have a spare set in the car so i’ll get those at lunch.  Then its scripted comedy paradise for me.  I hope i don’t remember something hilarious that I’ve seen while they’re presenting the murder case.  That could be awkward.

11:32am - Its so close to lunch.  I’m trying to decide what i want to eat for my first meal of the day. I can’t waste any time wondering where to go at 12:30. I’m way to hungry for that!!!!  I think I’ll use the Sherpa app on my Android.  It never helps but i’ll give it one more chance. Duh! Screw this. i went to college two blocks away from here.  I know all the places to get food.  GreaseTruck here I come.

(Before i came to me senses, the Sherpa app did work better than previous times. I think i’ll keep it a little while longer.)

1:30pm - Where can you get a cheese steak, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, bacon and french fries sandwich? Taj Mahal truck! That’s where!

Share photos on twitter with Twitpic

Oh man. That was so good but way to much for me. I dont even want to guess at how many calories that was.  I decided to eat this at the NJIT cafeteria. The whole thing was very ‘memory lane’. I went into almost all the buildings watching as people worked on their coding homework and talked about the AFS servers. I knew all that stuff at one time. Acouple of things did change though.  Most notable were the hot sauce bottles on every table in the cafe which is a nice touch.  Oh and way more GIRLS then i remember. That is also a very nice touch.

Yikes! They just called my name.

3:35pm - This is always the worst part. The actual jury selection is torture. They bring about 50 people to the court room. Then they call them up one by one and ask them about 25 questions. This takes forever. We just have to sit on the hard wooden benches and wait our turn. Its the ultimate Detention Session. :-(

4:15pm - That’s it for today but we all have to come back tomorrow and pick up where we left off.  They just need to pick one more juror but they have to go through about 50 people still. So this could take 15min or the whole day going into Friday.  I guess they really want you to earn that $5 dollars that they pay you per. day.

This is the most awesome and depressing thing I’ve seen in quite a while. Thanks to Josh Malina for pointing me to it. Watch the guy’s body language as he’s doing this. I say this in all sincerity: this country has to get its shit together.

If anyone wants to help this country get its shit together, there are plenty of Adult Education and Job Readiness volunteer opportunities with New York Cares.

The guy in the video is actually an actor, playing the role of a homeless person.

I don’t care if it’s an act. This is *just* what I needed today. How can one go wrong with Queen, David Bowie and Kermit?

Well the results are in for that Tumblr shirt contest.  I’m not a fan of the two winning designs. I like my designs better.

p.s. my designs are the two darker ones above. Click on the ‘t-shirt’ tag below to see bigger versions.
